About his works

He was told
'' I have been involved in painting seriously since 1948. Thereafter I passed through various phases due to the changes in my vision. After getting education from Jaipur School of Arts, where I have been in close contact with my teachers like Shailendra Nath De and Ramgopal Vijayvargiya, I started painting in wash and tempera techniques. My education from JJ School of Arts, Bombay, gave me an incentive to paint in oil. For a couple of years, I was trying to analyze human forms and nature around.

In 1961-62 I studied in Slade College of Art, London, which gave me a new vision of exploring the surface value and relationship of form and space. I tried to look inside to find new values. My technique also changed. I tried to use oil like water color. At once canvas started giving me new values of creation. I was trying to synthesize the external world with internal vision.

In 1974 my vision was again changed due to long illness. Everything appeared to me more thrilling. My lines were broken in tune with the throbbing of my heart. I started spreading them on the canvas at random that created new values of design and surface. My colors became somber.
After recovering from my long illness I diverted towards the sufferings of life. Women around me in Rajasthan were the great symbol of pathos for me, when I saw them being tortured, being brutally treated, beaten, raped and what not. At that time I started painting in series of walls, women and dissolving past etc. These subjects became more captivating for me.

Slowly and gradually I started realizing that subjects are meaningless. They are only for motivation. Actual realization comes with the fusion of inner and external world, when they become one with the artist himself.

To me art is a sort of meditation or yoga.''
